The Kool Gents were names after local DJ Herb "Kool Gent" Kent At WGS.

The 1959 release "There Goes My Baby" by The Drifters holds the distinction of being the first rhythm and blues record to use violins. Ben E. King was inspired to co-write the song after hearing Dee Clark's 1959 recording "Hey Little Girl" - Abner 1029.
